Mission StatementSouth Carolina Association of Art Therapists (SCATA) is an inclusive professional community for art therapists, students, and supporters who are working to promote diversity and the advancement of art therapy as a profession. SCATA pledges to pursue the highest ethical practice, advocate for legislature, and create ongoing professional development and educational opportunities across the state of South Carolina.

SCATA Board Members
President, Community DirectorNicole Krzan, MS, LPC, ATR (She/Her) is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Registered Art Therapist originally from Norfolk, VA. She obtained her Master of Science in Art Therapy & Counseling at Eastern Virginia Medical School in 2017. Shortly after graduation, she moved to Honolulu, Hawaii, where she completed her residency hours. Nicole has experience working in intensive in-home settings and serving communities throughout Oahu. Additionally, she has extensive experience from working at the mental health hospital Kahi Mohala, where she facilitated Art Therapy groups for all hospital units and programs such as child, adolescent, forensic adult, and partial hospitalization (PHP).
She currently resides in the upstate area of South Carolina and has been working in Private Practice with all age ranges since 2021. Occasionally, Nicole will travel back to Eastern Virginia Medical School to present as a guest speaker, assisting in educating future Art Therapy students to increase and enhance cultural awareness when working with populations such as East Asian, Multi-cultural, and Pacific Islander/Polynesian cultures. |
President-ElectKatie Hinson, MPS, LCAT, ATR-BC (She/Her) is a board-certified art therapist and founder of the Arts in Healing Department at MUSC Health. She holds an undergraduate degree in art and psychology from the College of Charleston and her Master’s from the School of Visuals Arts’ MPS Art Therapy Program in New York. She has over 12 years of experience working with a variety of populations in diverse settings including schools, outpatient clinics, hospitals, and various non-profits serving adults and children who have experienced trauma. Before returning to her hometown in Charleston, Katie spent three years working at Rikers Island utilizing art as a healing tool with the incarcerated.

TreasurerAshton Sullivan, MS, ATR, LPC is a licensed professional counselor and registered art therapist from Beaufort, SC. She received her Master’s degree in art therapy and counseling from Eastern Virginia Medical School in 2012. Ashton is the owner of Emerge Counseling & Art Therapy in Beaufort, SC where she specializes in treating adults who have experienced trauma or life transitions. She enjoys integrating art therapy with evidence-based treatments including EMDR and DBT to help her clients process difficult emotions while developing coping skills to decrease self-destructive behaviors and build a life worth living.
She is most passionate about working with first responders and helping them overcome the challenges they experience as a result of serving the community at large. She is a provisional member of the Junior Service League of Beaufort and looks forward to creating additional opportunities for connection and healing across the state of South Carolina. |
Secretary
Lisa Moore, MS, LPC, ATR-BC is a licensed professional counselor in both South Carolina and Wisconsin. She is a board-certified art therapist practicing in Summerville. She earned a BFA from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, and an MS from Mount Mary University, specializing in art therapy. Her practice combines art with motivational interviewing and other evidence-based approaches to stress, depression, and grief. She has developed art therapy programs in Wisconsin school districts, served as an arts educator both in Wisconsin and South Carolina, and is a former board member of the Wisconsin Art Therapy Association. She has been a studio photographer and book designer and is completing her book of photography in the Carolina Low County.
